When Religion of Sports decided to create its first ever narrative podcast, I helped develop the concept for the show, Why Sports Matter, where every episode explores a human story that explains a “tenant” of why sports are like a religion.
That work took me all over the country: to Buffalo, NY, to meet a soccer team made up of refugee children; to New Jersey, to meet an Average Joe who worked in a cubicle during the weeks and got his eyelids stapled shut as an amateur wrestler on the weekends; to dirt race tracks in the South, to witness a family tradition of working on cars that bonds generations.
